Everyone CALM DOWN!
Oh no! Liverpool have lost two league matches in a row! The horror!
The discontent on social media, by pundits in England and around the world have Liverpool being the worst club in the world because of a few bad results. Let me quickly remind everyone of what has happened in the last three and a half months to this club that I love so dearly. Diogo Jota tragically passed away in a motor vehicle accident just before pre-season in July. There was massive turnover to the roster including the departure of Luis Diaz. The addition of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Alexander Isak to name a few. These things cannot be discounted.
Let’s talk about the on the field results. First, the match versus Crystal Palace, a team that has not lost in 18 matches going into the match with Liverpool, was tight as expected. Liverpool DOMINATED the second half of that match and found an equalizer through Federico Chiesa in the 87th minute only to be stunned in the 97th minute by an Eddie Nketia goal. Second, the Champions League match versus Galatasaray in Constantinople which saw a controversial penalty be called against Liverpool. No, they didn’t play their best, but a loss nonetheless to an inferior team in a tough environment. And finally, the match over the weekend versus Chelsea. Liverpool had more big chances and big chances missed during the match than Chelsea. Liverpool had an expected goals (xG) of 1.95 for the match versus 1.00 for Chelsea. Chelsea needed a 95th minute winner from Esteveo to win the match.
Yes, Ibrahim Konate has been off the mark. Allison is injured. Robertson has also picked up an injury. Giovanni Leoni is done for the season with an ACL injury. Kerkez has been a bit of a liability at left back. The right back situation is tough. And Isak and Wirtz are still finding their way on a new club. The international break comes at the perfect time for Liverpool. Some time to regroup and recharge. Hopefully without any new injuries from the World Cup Qualifiers players will be participating in.
For the people losing their minds on social media and pundits claiming manager Arne Slot has lost his way and doesn’t know what he is doing really should be ashamed of themselves, especially those who called him a genius last season. For those so-called “supporters” not standing behind this club after the magical season they gave us are not actual supporters. They are just looking for a click online and trying to stir things up. There is enough of that nonsense already online. Don’t need it from those individuals too.
We are literally seven matches into a 38 match season and one point behind Arsenal who are no where near as good as Liverpool. And we are just 2 games into the Champions League campaign where it is clear it doesn’t matter if you finish first or 24th in the table. Remember that PSG finished 15th in the Champions League table last season and won the competition.
So my message is, just calm down. Things will be fine.
