World Cup Ticket Disappointment

The last time a wrote a blog, which you can find here, I wrote about the grifting that FIFA has allowed and fully participated with ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup. I entered into the Random Selection Draw for tickets to two matches in Toronto, Germany v Ivory Coast and Senegal v an opponent to be named in March based on playoff results. Based on FIFA’s ticketing site, those who applied for the Random Selection Draw were going to begin finding out whether or not they received tickets by February 5, 2026. I found out my fate in the wee hours of Sunday morning. Both of my entries were unsuccessful. My only option now is to go to secondary markets such as Stubhub or try out FIFA’s Marketplace where people are able to buy and sell tickets there.

As I mentioned in my last blog, the prices for tickets on those sites are absolutely outrageous. For the Senegal match, the least expensive ticket is currently listed in the $500 range. Stubhub is no better and when you add fees, it’s ridiculous. Needless to say, my dream of bringing the boys to the World Cup isn’t happening. We’ll be relegated to watching on the tele. I can’t justify paying thousands of dollars for a football match.

I can go on and on about how corrupt FIFA is and how our current administration helped in the price gouging that has occurred with ticket sales. I could also get into how it’s partially our fault for accepting this as the norm. Simply put, this is not tolerated anywhere else in the world. And never mind the actual match tickets. Have you heard about the pricing for parking?

One of many reasons I wanted to get tickets to matches in Toronto is because the train drops you off literally in front of BMO Field. Our plan was to stay south of Toronto, perhaps in the Mississauga or Oakville area where hotel prices where actually normal and take the train to the stadium. Parking at SoFi in Los Angeles will cost you anywhere between $250 to $1,200 for premium parking. What the hell is premium parking? You can’t be serious with that.

Anyways, I’m just shaking my fist at the clouds. I knew that ticket demand would be very high, but the outrage is really the prices of everything. I guess we can just go a nice family vacation somewhere and probably enjoy that just as much.

Finally, I wanted to touch on Kevin’s last blog. He encapsulated perfectly how we have been feeling for some time. Yeah, we choose not to talk politics on our show or in our blogs. But sometimes, it’s hard to stand by and watch. Only thing I would add is be vigilant, be safe, and use the power you have as a voter to make a difference. Be well everyone.
